Politicians are slamming the M.T.A.'s $2.1 billion plan to extend the No. 7 subway line because it does not immediately call for a stop at 41st Street and Tenth Avenue. The M.T.A. says that the Second Avenue Subway and its East Side Access plan will leave no money for the station. Senator Charles Schumer, Rep. Anthony Weiner, Rep. Jerrold Nadler and other politicians said yesterday that not including the station in the initial construction could lead to $500 million in additional costs if it is built later.

Europeans seek condo deals in NYC

Europeans on shopping sprees in New York City are buying more than holiday gifts. Taking advantage of the weak dollar, they are buying apartments. "The exchange rate is like a gift from God for Europeans," said Danielle Grossenbacher, a broker for Coldwell Banker Hunt Kennedy. "Everybody is feeling they have an opportunity to purchase a piece of Manhattan." The number of foreign buyers has doubled in two years, and they have bought one-third of all new condos in the last 18 months, according to research firm Radar Logic.

Brooklyn residents fight Walentas project

Community groups in Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo are battling a Dock Street project proposed by developer David Walentas' Two Trees Management, although the development has been scaled back and new incentives have been offered. The original plan for the 400-unit residential development was defeated in 2004. Two Trees has promised to set aside 80 units as affordable and make the building the first in Dumbo to receive a green Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification.
